Firefighter II Safety & Survival / RIT
Our Firefighter II program in Cromwell wrapped up this week with our Safety & Survival / RIT Program. We include this training as a supplement to the traditional Firefighter II program to better prepare our students for operating safely on the fireground while honing skills that would help them navigate challenges and affect self-rescue or assist a fellow firefighter that is trapped or injured. This training begins with a classroom lecture fostering discussions of skill and case studies involving RIT and fireground survival. Today, students took to the drill ground to refresh on SCBA skills as well as learn new skills including: RIT Air Supply, Firefighter packaging, drags and carries, emergency ladder bailouts, and calling the MAYDAY. These skills help firefighters best prepare for any adverse conditions they may find themself in on the fire ground and gives them tools to help themseleves survive.
