Firefighter II Extrication Training

Students in the Firefighter II Program hosted by the Cromwell Fire Department conducted their vehicle extrication practical skills today. Yesterday, the class held a lecture on vehicle stabilization, extrication and assisting technical rescue incidents. After lecture, Cromwell Fire Squad 1 was on site to provide a tool lab where students were able to see the variety of rescue equipment carried by specialized apparatus.

Today, students conducted practical skills involving scene assessment, hazard identification, stabilization and extrication of victims. Instructors demonstrated multiple ways to ensure the vehicle is stable and how to access patients that are trapped. This session is also audited by the CFA Certification Division for each student participating and is the first step towards working to obtain a Firefighter II Certification. Great job by all students and instructors today on a solid day of skills.
